While looking of something on the Internet, I ran across an article / Blog at “About.com”, by Austin Cline. According to his own links, he is “actively involved in educating people about atheism and secular humanism on the Internet.” His passion for his belief sheds light on the purpose of his verbal attack On Bob Jones University.
In article, he complained that BJU had a ban on Jazz music but not on guns. He admits that the guns are required to be turned in and kept under lock, but his head line read: “Bob Jones University: Pistols Ok, Jazz Not Ok”. I suspect that the headline was to get attention. After reading his article and noticing that no one had left any comments, about his article, I left my own comment. Below is my comment:
“Mr. Cline has made a big deal out of nothing. All Colleges have rules, Bob Jones is no exception. No one is forced to go to Bob Jones U. or any other College, it is a choice. If a person does not like and choose to follow the rules of a College, they should not attend that College. Reading the list of rules (in the article) it is clear that BJU does not want things on their campus that are contrary to the Christian Principles that they are teaching.
As for the pointing out of guns vs. Jazz, we have a God given and Constitutional right to arm ourselves and even then that is not forced on anyone. When it comes to defending myself, I'll choose a gun over Jazz any day (although I can visualize an attacker dropping his weapon and grabbing his ears when countered with some Jazz).
I don't think BJU is the real subject in the article as much is it someone’s hatred of Christianity.

It is strange to me, that someone who claim to be an Atheist would spend so much of his time trying to attack a God that he does not believe exist. His article, complaining about BJU, was just a excuse for his attack. I once heard it said that: “The Atheist does not believe in God, so He does not exist. God does not believe in Atheist, so they don’t exist.”
It was necessary to add my comment to his article because it is assumed that to be silent is to agree. Let us not be silent.

HI!Thank you for allowing comments!
Get a clue Bob Jones University, ban guns on your campus not jazz.
Gee, Margie's comment looked lonely all by itself, so I thought I'd add my two cents. Interestly, she only thanks you for being ALLOWED to comment, and then doesn't comment. I take it you don't usually ALLOW comment-might encourage disagreement, I guess.
"...atheist...trying to attack a god..." (the word 'god' as used here is not a proper noun, therefore does not require capitalization). I didn't see anywhere on this site an attack on God; only comments on the small minded bigotry of some fundamentalistattitudes including BJU's and your own. Since when was music-any music- unacceptable to Jesus, according to scripture? Where does it say that? A ban on music (in this case jazz - America's great contribution to serious music) reminds me of Afganistan under the Taliban. Oh! I get it! You don't like it(jazz), so thank goodness it's banned at BJU. Now, if we could only stifle and ban everything you don't like, nation-wide, we'd have a right proper country. No freedom, but who cares about that?
Be interested to see if you post this, or if you just object to ANY criticism.
Bob
Anonymous, It appears that you have made a lot of assumptions. Re-read both articles and go to
link provided to BJU for the rules. BJU does not allow guns on their campus, they must be turned in and locked up. I did not say if I personally agreed with the rules of BJU or not. The rules are not the point of my blog. The point was the Mr. Cline had made a big deal out of nothing. I did not choose to go to BJU. As I stated, BJU has the right to make what ever rules they want and prospective students have a right to choose to attend and follow the rules or not attend. No big deal.
As far as the capital "G" for the one true God, it is
appropriate and correct, all others are assigned a small "g", in as much as you can make anything a small "g" god. There are many gods, but only one true God.
If I remember correctly, Afganistan under the Taliban was not a Christian country nor did they teach or allow to be taught Christian doctrines. I do not know if their music sounds much like "Jazz" or not. BJU may also not care for Afganistan music, I do not know.
