Today’s Church & The Biker

As a general rule, Bikers do not just accept everything they hear, but question it! They are usually pretty good at recognizing deception. They can usually spot the phonies. If they go to a church and are judged, looked down on, or made to feel unwelcome, they won’t be back.

Even churches that claim to be Biker friendly are actually just saying that it is alright if you attend. They may smile and shake your hand, but you better not question anything or express an opinion. Does that sound like a harsh judgment? It may sound harsh, but sadly it is true. Biker Sundays usually go pretty good and Bikers are treated well at them, but it is like having a Mission Sunday or something else out of the ordinary. The church can stand one day of Bikers and may find them interesting, but if they were there every Sunday, that might be a different story.

Even if you are not a Biker, you may find that today's church is filled with people who seem very nice and friendly, but are very shallow and superficial and will turn on you in a minute. They are very easily offended and will be your brother one minute and completely reject you the next. If you are brothers and sisters in Christ you are related to each other. Do you cast away your own family? A lot of that comes from a lack of spiritual depth, a lack of honest Bible study, and a lack of Discernment.

If you have done some honest Bible study, if you have walked with the Lord for many years and let Him teach you, or if you are able to discern whether or not things are true or false, you may not be that welcome in many churches today. However, if you just repeat the same things that they have been repeating, you might just be tolerated. Today’s church, likes being agreed with, right or wrong. “We have been teaching this for years, it must be right.” “Cloneliness is next to godliness, right?” “If you what to be one of His, you’ve got to act like one of us.” Those might as well be songs in their hymn book.

From the pulpit to the pew, is the old saying. Am I saying it is all the preachers fault? Of course not! But few in the pew, ever bother to check out what is said or do much honest Bible study.

If the few in the pew,
Knew what to do,
We would be in such a stew!

A lot of preachers, today have received the college book learning and are good at repeating what they have been told. Those in the pew, hear and believe. Both lack the discernment to recognize error or question anything. Too many preachers believe that they have it all figured out and therefore are all knowing. I remember one preacher that liked to say: “You can disagree with me, but you’ll be wrong.” How could you have an honest Bible study with such a person? How could you discuss Bible principles? Would you just hear, “It is what I say it is”! “It is what it is, brother.” That’s right and it just might be error.

These same preachers will always have an associate pastor or deacon or two, ready to agree with them and repeat the party line. “Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.” 1 Timothy 1:7

Those in the pew have failed to be like those in Berea who: “were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11 KJV They fail to check anything out and will quickly “circle the wagons” if you question anything.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;“ 2 Timothy 4:3

Where is the sound doctrine? Where is the discernment? “. . . when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8 Good questions!

“For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.” Hebrews 5:12-13 I am disappointed to find such gross ignorance in the church today. A the sad part is that they don’t know they are ignorant and think that they have it all figured out. Part of the problem is not so much what they don’t know as it is knowing so much that just is not true.

Example, how can you correctly understand the Word of God if you do not understand the terms, definations or understand who the scripture is addressed to. Some Prophets were sent to the House of Israel and some Prophets were sent to the House of Judah. If they call them all Jews, will they understand? Here is something else for free. Calling all Israel, Jews is like calling all Americans, Texans.

I use the subjects of Judaism and Jews as examples because it is an area that I have studied and have written books on.

Some churches are so shallow in their doctrine that they add things that they think will make them seem more spiritual. Some refer to themselves as Prophets (should be spelled profit) and/or speaking in some kind of unbiblical tongues. Some have begun quoting Jewish Rabbis or having them as guest speakers, to get, as they say, to the roots of their Christianity (or should I say Judeo-Christianity). This is for free – you will not learn anything about your Christianity from a Rabbi of Judaism. The religion of Judaism is very anti-Christ. The Bible is the best commentary on the Bible and God’s Holy Spirit, the best teacher. Can I hear an Amen? Thank you!

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.” 2 Peter 2:1

Error has been taught and heard for so long, that they resist the truth and believe the truth to be error. When a person exposes error or questions something they are accused of having a critical spirit. 1 John 4:1 tells us to be critical, to question, to use discernment. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

This is becoming a little longer article than I had planned, but perhaps it is something that needed to be said. I just get very disappointed in today’s church and the way that they treat Bikers is just a good example. For those who have wondered why we need Biker Churches, perhaps this article will help you to understand. If anyone has been offended by anything that I have said here, please know this. It is not my intention to offend you, but rather to edify you.

I am so thankful that in many areas there are Biker Churches and many Christian Motorcycle Ministries. Unfortunately, some Bikers get so burnt out on today’s church, that they won’t even show up if there was a Biker Church in their area. Sometimes it is hard to get Bikers to show up for a Biker Sunday, unless they are active in a good Christian Motorcycle Ministry.

There I go, I quit complaining about today’s church and started complaining about us. But how can we expect anything to change, if we don’t do our part? That is why I promote Biker Sundays, try to get churches to have them and attend as many of them as I can. I have even tried to test the waters to see if a Biker Church would work in our area. Whatever we do, it needs to be with God’s leadership and be in His will. Without Him it would fail. Without him it would just be my own efforts and fail.

Even though today’s church is in the shape it is in, we need to search for our part in God’s plan. If we put Him first and stay in the center of His will, we can not fail. #
