There are a lot of good people who just follow along and do not check things out for themselves. In every one of the ten books that I have written, I have tried to encourge Bible Study. Not just Bible reading, but Bible study.
People will hear different speakers (some call themselves Prophets, some call themselves preachers) and these speakers say and predict all kinds of good things. People love to hear that, but do their words agree with scripture?
This is where Discernment comes in. We need to discern if the words we hear agree with God's words or not. What is so odd to me is that even when some of these false prophets are exposed for what they are, they are still strongly defended by the blind followers. Man will always let you down, that is why we are to follow God not man.
Not long ago, I exposes a so called "Prophet", that was having "revivals" in Florida. I just compared what he was saying to what God's Word says. I was told by someone (that I care about very much) that no he wasn't a false prophet that they knew him and knew his heart. I responded with the scripture about how evil mans heart is. It was not long after that, the truth came out about him and how he was cheating on his wife with a member of his staff and so on.
One of the people I had shared the information with, later told me that they were amazed that I had know about him before that all came out. I told them that all I did was compare what he was saying with God's Word, that anyone could do that.
We each can discern the false from the true, it we will follow God and not man and stay in God's word. Don't be mislead by nice sounding words of those who like to call themselves Prophets.

I know what you mean. I suggested having an in-depth bible study in our home group and got shot down really quickly. The fact is most pastors know they're being watched by the ADL and are afraid of being shut down. The church should not be the way it it. For me the 501(3)c churches are just social clubs. That's the way I look at it.
