Addicted To Milk

Addicted To Milk
By Crossfire

I am often saddened and somewhat amazed at the total rejection of truth by today’s church. Unless it is John 3:16, they do not want to hear it. I hear preachers and laymen say that the only purpose of the church is to save souls. Even though they say that, it is just an excuse for ignoring truth. With knowledge comes responsibility. They say other things may be good, but they are not the job of the church. Meanwhile they are doing other things, like sending money to feed people in other countries and so on. It is just that they do not want someone to “rock the boat” so to speak. They are comfortable just the way they are. These scriptures come to mind:

(1 Corinthians 3:2) “I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.”(Hebrews 5:12-14) “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

Today’s church is filled with a lot of loveable babies. Good people, sincere, and love God, but they do not want anything more than milk. They choke on anything more and will resist anyone that tries to feed or even offer them more than milk. “The only thing important is Jesus, brother.” Is what they say. Offering them more than milk is not saying that Jesus is not important, it is because He is important. He desires Christians to mature. Baby Christians let all kinds of error into the church because they are not mature enough to recognize it. Woe be to the pastor that tries to correct error or even get away from some of the pagan rituals that have got their way into the church. I have been told that churches that do not keep the pagan holidays are dying and doing no good. I disagree, churches that continue to be like the world, may be popular, but are spiritually dead.

Why isn’t truth important anymore? As long as they continue to believe that the only purpose of the church is to save souls and that it is the pastor’s job to do that, they can relax and just be entertained. Becoming a mature Christian would take a lot more prayer, Bible study, and living what they have learned. We have become lazy and comfortable and for the most part remain spiritual babies.

Let us ask God for His forgiveness and for His help in teaching us to become mature Christians. Let us live a life like Christ instead of the world. Others should be able to see Christ in us. Perhaps then we can hear Him say: We done my good and faithful servant!
